HQ's Mark Goodman gives Q1 and Q2 Metro Vancouver market analysis to Western Investor

HQ Real Estate Services' Mark Goodman was recently quoted in the September 2011 issue of Western Investor in an article exploring investment trends and Metro Vancouver multi-family apartment properties. Goodman identifies the communities surrounding downtown Vancouver as the new investment "hot spot," with 28 buildings changing hands in these areas in the first six months of 2011 and an overall increase in unit sales of 178 per cent.

BCREA's Commercial Leading Indicator Declines in Q2 2011

The British Columbia Real Estate Association (BCREA) Commercial Leading Indicator (CLI) decreased 0.4 points to 108.1 in the second quarter of 2011. BCREA Economist Brendon Ogmundson attributes the drop to weak growth in retail sales and employment, as well as a decline in manufacturing sales. Low longterm interest rates, however, may help stimulate investment activity in the province.

Energy Efficiency and the 2012 Building Code

The 2012 update to the BC Building Code will bring a number of significant changes to building requirements for energy efficiency in our province. In order to prepare the building industry for the new Code, BC Housing's Home Protection Office has been offering seminars across the province to help educate builders, architects, tradespeople, officials, brokers and other professionals. The Urban Development Institute is currently offering a synopsis of these seminars online.

BC Commercial Leading Indicator Pauses in Q1

The British Columbia Real Estate Association reports that its index of Commercial Leading Indicators (CLI) decreased 0.1 points in the first quarter of 2011, from 108.7 in Q4 2010 to 108.6 in Q1 2011. Although marginal, this is the first decline in the CLI in nearly two years.
